Artists in Venice like to put up their easel in the quietest places. You will hardly see one among the crowd on the Piazza San Marco (except of course the stallholders selling souvenir paintings). I've observed that painters are mostly english, as this man who found a quiet and beautiful bridge with a wrought iron parapet, so peaceful although two steps from the busy Campo Zanipolo.
