Photo Precedente Procuratie vecchie Photo Suivante
The first Procuraties, at the north of the Piazza san Marco, were build by Mauro Codussi from 1514, and completed by Bartolomeo Bon in 1590. They have been called Procuratie vecchie (old procuraties) after the construction of the New Procuraties at the south of the Piazza. This building was intended to provide accommodation for the Procurators of San Marco, leading dignitaries in charge of the church possessions. The building is remarkable for the continuous succession of fifty archs at the ground floor, and with this double level of windows narrow and arched, typicals of the veneto-byzantine style.
