About this photo...
Right near Santa Maria della Visitazione (aslo named Gesuati), on the Zatterre, this "Bocca di Leone" (lion mouth) dates back from the 15th century. It was used to insert anonymous letters of denunciation related to public health in the Dorsoduro sestiere : the terrible black plague was the fear of these times. Plague-stricken where then sent in quarantine in the island of Lazaretto Vecchio. This photo has been viewed 1971 times
