Dorsoduro in Italian means "Hard Back", as a reminder that this sestiere is the only one out of Venice’s six sestieri to be built on a firm, rocky land instead of marshy grounds. It is an exquisite quarter where you’d love to hang around. Located in the southwest part of the city, Dorsoduro is an elegant district full of museums, ornated with many welcoming quays, its delicious campos topped with magnificent church domes, where you will see nothing but architectural and cultural wonders. A very open space, Dorsoduro has streets large enough, made from blocked canals, it holds the most beautiful secret gardens, small flowerbeds, all make the quarter the most desired one for its calm and silence. Dorsoduro also attracts more and more foreign inhabitants, acquiring more and more of its beautiful, chic houses becoming too expensive for common Venetians.
